Last month the DRBC sent out a letter informing Drilling Company Neufield that it will not approve ANY dockets for ANY natural gas well activity in the Delaware River Basin. (view letter). Prior to this edict by the Executive Director of the DRBC, water was the issue surrounding the extraction of natural gas from the Marcellus Shale deposits in Northeast PA and New York State, but since Neufield would not be using water, or fraccing their exploratory wells, it appears that the Executive Director was spurred on by religious environmentalists who have run a campaign of fear and misinformation. This action has forced Neufield to initiate Force Majeure. A big bogus Thumbs Down for the November 8, 2008 Article in the Binghampton Press entitled Natural gas quest: State files show 270 drilling accidents in past 30 years.
With over a million uses of the hydro-fraccing technology, the Senate and Public Works Committee could not identify a single documented instance of groundwater contamination as a result of using the technology of hydrofraccing.
